New cousin

My sister-in-law had her baby today. Add another girl to the family. Now we just wait for our little girl. I am sure Christine will post more and a picture later.

Tagged (sort of)

Well, I have been tagged again. Not so bad since I am running out of things to blog about other than Brendan is sick and I am very pregnant. A few more weeks and I'll certainly have more to say (though may be too tired to say them).

1. Book- Anyone who knows me knows I am a bookaholic and couldn't possibly choose just one.

2. Movie- Too many favorites.

3. Color- Blue.

4. TV Shows- We have all seasons of Monk on DVD. Don't really watch TV anymore.

5. Guilty Pleasure- Internet "window shopping"

6. Outfit- Does my robe count?

7. Body part- My cute preggo belly (for right now). The checker at the grocery store said I was a "adorable" and that I didn't even look pregnant except for the belly. I'll take that kind of comment over "Are you sure you aren't having twins?" any day.

8. Kitchen tip - Always make sure you have cereal and milk and your husband will be happy. Well, maybe just mine is.

9. Life lesson- Sleep when your kids let you.

10. Activity- Reading and being online (see #5)

11. Food- Donuts have been sounding good lately. Ask me again another day and I'll have another favorite. Oh, but the strawberry shortcake at The Cheesecake Factory is to die for!!!

12. Child raising tip- Be prepared to read the same books over and over and over. Always pack the diaper bag with distractions - treats, cars and books - especially for church. Don't compare your kid to other kids and never compare yourself to other moms.

13. Pet peeve - I hate socks being left in the living room, reaching into the box for a granola bar only to find that it is empty but left on the shelf and misspellings (I know, the last one makes me a nerd)

14. Game- I love word games.

15. Tattoo - Wouldn't ever have one.

16. Element - Of surprise :)

There you have it. Not as clever as I'd like but I claim pregnancy (kind of like claiming insanity). I am not tagging anyone because no one I tag ever responds. Feel free to consider yourself tagged if you have a blog and you want to.

Helpful website

In preparation for the coming baby, my sister sent me this link.

It puts things pretty simply. Whew! Glad you sent it to me, Shiloh. Really clears things up. :)

Some funny kid moments

I have two funny stories that happened this week. I know my posts lately have been all about kids, but Brendan is our entertainment.

First, Brendan was watching an episode of Diego where the cartoon character asked, "What is your favorite animal?" Brendan replied emphatically, "Train!"

The second story was at my parents' house. They are foster parents now of a 4 year old girl. I was trying to coax Brendan into eating something since I knew he must be hungry but he was having too much fun playing to stop and eat. This little girl heard me and proceeded to tell me all that she had eaten that day. She ended with, "And now my tummy is full!". Then she eyed my pregnant belly and said, "Yours must be full too."
Gotta love kids!

Icing on the cake

This weekend we went to my parents' house for my nephew's second birthday party. His mommy made him a cute dinosaur cake with green and blue frosting. She let the boys lick the beaters. They got very sticky and messy so my mom took them to the bathroom to wash them up. She came out with a smiling but guilty face and apologized to us. When I asked what for she said," Well, what in the bathroom is the same color as the frosting?" Yep, Brendan mistook the bar of Irish Spring soap for a big chunk of green icing and tried to take a bite of it. He must have had the funniest face!

This is my nephew as we sang "Happy Birthday".

Brendan gets to enjoy some dinosaur cake.

Now I have heard of a "pottymouth" but . . .

Okay, funny Brendan story. We were at a friends' house yesterday and they have a three year old that is working on potty training. Therefore, in their bathroom they have a tiny potty seat made for littler buns. The three year old called from upstairs to his dad that he had to go potty. Brendan was up there with him playing with trains beforehand. Soon we hear, "Jason, can you come up here?" Next we hear a tremendous scream from my son and a burst of hysterical laughter from the dads. We moms decide to investigate. I got up from the couch and met them at the bottom of the stairs. Jason was holding a crying, bellowing Brendan and is redfaced himself from laughing so hard. Apparently, when the dad opened the bathroom door to help his son, Brendan saw the potty seat and, for whatever reason, thought it would fit nicely on his head. He acted so quickly that he couldn't be stopped in time. So Jason came in to see Brendan with a toilet seat around his neck and caused him to scream bloody murder when he pulled it off, as it would get stuck on his ears. Oh how I wish we had our camera. He still has a red mark across the top of his ears today. Whatever posessed him to put it on his head???

New Year's Resolutions

We ramped up to the new year with a movie marathon of A&E's Pride and Prejudice and muddy buddies. I almost made it to midnight but ended up falling asleep on the couch at 11:30. We had sparkling cider and went to bed. Brendan woke up early the next morning (how unfair).
My resolutions are modest this year. I want to read my scriptures more faithfully and earlier in the day rather than when I am tired at night. I also plan to lose the baby weight, starting after my postpartum checkup. Jason is also trying for a fitness/diet goal. It is hard for him when he is on a diet and I am not so it will be nice when March rolls around and I can join him. I am also planning on taking another online course in a few months. I need some educational stimulation!

Raining cats and dogs

We have been having the craziest storms here for the past few days. Things in Northern CA are WET! Trees are falling down, traffic is bad, bridges are closed and power lines are down. Luckily, we have power. It is a good thing so that we can beat Guitar Hero III on Medium. Yes, we rock!!
